Thousands of francophiles and philofrancs have turned out to the annual French Film Festival at the Contemporary Arts Centre on Abbot St in Cairns and staged by the Alliance Française de Cairns.
The fully sold-out event has always been popular with North Queenslanders. The culture of clinking wine-glasses and talking loudly in obnoxiously Gallic tones is completely redolent of the local lifestyle.
In this year’s festival, standout films included Un Sac De Billes, about a French-Jewish family escaping the threat of Nazism and Juste La Fin Du Monde about a French-Canadian family escaping the threat of realism. They were warmly received.
What a wonderful three days! Liberte! Egalite! Farternite! Macron!!
See you next year… Destine!
